FAQ
Frequently asked questions about the practical mechanics of I Think It’s You. For broader, philosophical questions about missed connections in general, see the FAQ page on the website.
About the platform
What is I Think It’s You?
A platform for respectful, light-handed missed connections. You write a small wanted poster (German: Steckbrief) about a moment in real life, and the right person — maybe — reads it.
Is it a dating app?
No. There are no profiles to swipe, no algorithm to please, no “matches”. I Think It’s You starts where dating apps end: with a real moment that already happened.
What is the :|: signal?
A short rhythm — ding – ding – dong – ding – ding, or short – short – long – short – short — that you can tap on a glass, blink, draw on a foggy window, or otherwise hint at. It means “I think it’s you”. Used in real life it nudges someone to look you up here. See the Symbol page on the website for the full story.
Account and sign-in
How do I create an account?
Click Sign in / Login in the header. The Keycloak page opens; pick Register and fill in the form. See Account, Sign-in and Settings.
What are the password requirements?
At least 12 characters, with at least one uppercase, one lowercase, one digit and one special character.
I forgot my password.
Use Forgot password? on the Keycloak sign-in page. Check
your spam folder if the e-mail doesn’t appear, and add
noreply@i-think-its-you.at to your contacts. If nothing
arrives, write to us via the Contact page on the website.
Can I change my username or e-mail?
Both are managed in Keycloak (our identity partner). Use the Keycloak account-management page or contact us.
Can I delete my account?
Account deletion is handled through Keycloak. Reach out via the Contact page if you’d like us to help.
Wanted Posters
How do I write a wanted poster?
Sign in, click Create Wanted Poster in the header, fill in Content (the only required field) and any other fields you like, then publish. See Wanted Posters (Steckbriefe).
Can I edit or delete my own wanted poster?
Yes. Open the post and use Edit or Delete. Editing shows an (edited) marker on the post. Deletion is a soft delete — the post disappears from the public timeline but can be restored by a moderator if needed.
What is a Sighting Type?
The category of the sighting: ❤️ Missed Connection, 🤝 Get to Know, 🧠 Look Familiar, 🙏 Give Thanks & Praise, 🌍 Network & Encounter, or 👽 Miscellaneous. Optional but helpful — it shapes who reads.
What is the Reward for finding me?
A free-text “thank you” you’d offer if the connection happens — “Coffee on me”, “Dinner and a movie”. Optional, light-hearted.
I saw someone on the train / plane. Where do I post?
Best practice is two posts: one for the boarding location, one for the destination. A sighting can only “live” at one place at a time, so two posts double the chance.
Can I post the same sighting twice?
Don’t duplicate the same sighting in the same place. Multiple locations for the same trip — yes, see above.
I deleted my post by mistake. Can I get it back?
Deletion is a soft delete; only moderators can restore. Use the Contact page on the website to ask for a restore — quicker than re-creating the post and easier on the moderation team.
Profile and notifications
How do I add or change my profile picture?
Open your Your Profile, scroll to Profile picture and use Upload picture / Change picture / Delete picture.
What notifications will I get?
A bell badge for new comments on your wanted posters and new direct messages. See Notifications.
The unread badge is wrong / stuck.
Open the notifications page and click Mark all read, then refresh the page.
Moderation
How do I report content?
Use Report on the wanted poster or comment. Optionally add a reason. The content is hidden from the public list and queued for review. See Moderation.
What happens after I report something?
A moderator reviews the report. They may approve (uphold) or reject (dismiss) it. Approved reports keep the content hidden; rejected reports make it visible again.
I’m a moderator. Where are the moderation queues?
Once you have the MODERATOR role you’ll see new links in the header: Flagged Posts, Flagged Comments, Deleted Posts, Deleted Comments. ADMINs also get Manage moderators. See Moderation.
Privacy and safety
Is what I write public?
Posters and comments are public to anyone visiting the site. Direct messages are private (only you and the other person see them). Notifications are private to you.
Is my data safe?
We use secure authentication via Keycloak; your password is hashed (we never store it in plain text) and HTTPS protects the connection. Posters and comments you publish are visible to everyone — please don’t put anything there you wouldn’t want public.
How long do my posts stay online?
For as long as you keep them. You can delete them at any time.
Browser, language and theme
Which browsers work?
The latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari and Opera. JavaScript and cookies need to be enabled.
How do I change the language?
Use the language toggle in the header. Your choice is remembered between sessions.
How do I switch to dark mode?
Use the theme toggle in the header. Both light and dark are brand-tuned (deep olive instead of pure black).

Comments and messages
Why do I have to be signed in to comment?
Sign-in keeps the conversation respectful and makes spam much harder. It also means your comments are tied to you and easy to manage from your Your Profile.
Where do I find direct messages?
Use the chat icon or Messages link in the header (signed in only), or open
/messages. See Direct Messages.Why can’t I message everyone?
You can message anyone with an account, but the search needs their username as it’s used on I Think It’s You.
Should I share my contact details in a wanted poster?
No. Use Direct messages to share contact details when both sides are comfortable. Public contact details invite spam and worse.
